Walk a'bout

Sarah loves to walk behind the ride on toy and push her brother. Note in the first picture that Caleb is holding on for dear life. There was a crash shortly after this picture was taken.

Sarah loves being pushed on the ride on toy although Caleb isn't always eager to push. We have a new favorite toy in the Speasl house. It's a really great thing now that they've got their "walking" legs under them!

Caleb the Patient

Caleb had his little heart procedure done this Thursday at OHSU. He was quite a trooper. We were originally scheduled to go up on June 28th but they rescheduled with less than a weeks notice. He wasn't able to have anything to eat after 6:30 and we had to check into the hospital by 10am. They didn't take him into the procedure until 1:30 so by then he was a hungry and somewhat angry little man. They had placed his IV an hour or so before that and gave him some medication that had him feeling no pain as you can see by the picture where I am holding him. The procedure lasted about 3 hours and was quite a success. They placed a coil in the little duct in his heart and it closed the duct instantly. The doctor's said he had no discomfort from the procedure and he won't ever feel the coil. We even have x-rays for his baby book showing the coil. He stayed overnight at Doernbecher and slept a lot. He was only interested in what we would feed him when he woke. Which was long enough to eat, watch a little Baby Einstein with Dad and then head back to sleep. He was a very good and did amazingly well considering all he had to put up with. We got back to Eugene about 1pm Friday and other than not playing any contact sports (hopefully we can get Sarah to cooperate with that) he is doing great. He's back to his usual self. The pictures are of him when we first got there (nice pink gown), all drugged up, after with daddy (4amish) and then on the way home. While we were gone, Sarah had a wonderful time having Grandma and Grandpa all to herself. I don't think she even missed us!

New Family Pictures

We had family pictures done shortly after the kids turned 1! With them crawling now there were a lot more "action" shots this time.

And They're Off!

It's official...they are both crawiling. Caleb started crawling the day after their 1st birthday and Sarah, not to be out done, started a few days later. YIKES! So far, Sarah has figured out which button turns on the TV, she has had her first mobility injury (a nice little bump on the head), and loves to show mommy everything that can possibly be a safety hazard. Caleb wants to pull himself up on anything and everything and in doing so has found some unique places to use as teethers. He has had two new teeth break through this week and two more are right behind. Naptime has become quite a fun experience in the Speasl household. Now they can see each other across their room and spend more time chatting and giggling than napping.

First Birthday

We celebrated the kids' first birthday on May 5th. We went to a local pool. The really love the water! They also really enjoyed the cake! They are growing and changing so fast. Sarah's favorite mode of transportation is rolling all over the place. She is working on crawling but isn't quite there. She has pulled herself up as well. She says mama and dada, bye bye with a cute little backwards wave and throws her arms out and says "tada!" Too cute. Caleb has just started crawling. He seems more eager to pull himself up. He also goes from his back/belly to sitting and back again. They are really starting to discover each other. They make each other giggle (and mommy & daddy as well!) They will both take steps if you hold their hands. It's amazing how quickly they learn!
