Adventures in Eating

Here's Caleb eating his first "Big Boy" banana. We let him have a half and he went to town. What a slimy mess! I think he enjoyed that part best of all. He's been a little more eager to try and walk lately. He's pushing the ride on toy around and walks holding one hand. He also has been talking a lot. His latest phrase...."Go Ducks!"
Sarah is learning to use a spoon. She was getting very irritated at meal time and once we gave her a little more independence she seemed to be happy. They are eating lots of big kid food these days and they love it. Their favorite is grilled cheese! YUM!

Latest Summer Fun
So here's Sarah showing off her new skill. She decided about a week ago that it was time to walk and she's very excited about it! She'll take 5 or 6 steps before landing in a giggling heap on the floor. Caleb is still pretty content to go with crawling because it seems to be a lot quicker.
Caleb is enjoying (sort of) some time in the pool they got for their birthday. The water was a little cold but he really enjoyed splashing! Caleb and Sarah both had fun trying to catch the spraying water with their fingers and going down the slide.Monday, June 25, 2007

Caleb the Patient

Caleb had his little heart procedure done this Thursday at OHSU. He was quite a trooper. We were originally scheduled to go up on June 28th but they rescheduled with less than a weeks notice. He wasn't able to have
anything to eat after 6:30 and we had to check into the hospital by 10am. They didn't take him into the procedure until 1:30 so by then he was a hungry and somewhat angry little man. They had placed his IV an hour or so before that and gave him some medication that had him feeling no pain as you can see by the picture where I am holding him. The procedure lasted about 3 hours and was quite a success. They placed a coil in the little duct in his heart and it closed the duct instantly. The doctor's said he had no discomfort from the procedure and he won't ever feel the coil. We even have x-rays for his baby book showing the coil. He stayed overnight at Doernbecher and slept a lot. He was only interested in what we would feed him when he woke. Which was long enough to eat, watch a little Baby Einstein with Dad and then head back to sleep. He was a very good and did amazingly well considering all he had to put up with. We got back to Eugene about 1pm Friday and other than not playing any contact sports (hopefully we can get Sarah to cooperate with that) he is doing great. He's back to his usual self. The pictures are of him when we first got there (nice pink gown), all drugged up, after with daddy (4amish) and then on the way home. While we were gone, Sarah had a wonderful time having Grandma and Grandpa all to herself. I don't think she even missed us!
